Simon Hunt

I use either iron rich stoneware or porcelain bodies for my work which are thrown and sometimes altered on the wheel. All my work is biscuit fired before glazing. I use wood ash, tenmoku and kaki glazes, often with a white overglaze.

Porcelain is glazed with wood ash or celadons, sometimes with manganese. I am continually developing my wood ash glazes to produce a range of sympathetic and natural effects with the different clay bodies.

All my work is fired in my gas kiln to cone 10 (1285 deg C) with heavy reduction so that the iron in the stoneware reacts with clay bodies with the different glazes creating richly speckled oranges and browns.
